Mission Statement
The staff, parents, and students of Batavia Middle School are committed to establishing and maintaining a dynamic educational program which meets the unique intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs of the early adolescent learner. We are determined to:
- -Provide a developmentally age-appropriate program which includes core classes, exploratory experiences, and co-curricular activities
- -Promote personal achievement and self-esteem foster respect and responsibility for self and others
- -Provide the knowledge and understanding necessary to think critically and creatively, both independently and cooperatively
- -Develop skills necessary to make responsible decisions
- -Maintain challenging yet reasonable expectations for all while accepting each person as an individual
- -Encourage life-long learning and good citizenship

Sam Rotolo Middle School of Batavia
Sam Rotolo Middle School is a school of approximately 1,500 students. The school serves students in grades six through eight. It is the only middle school in the District and serves all students at these grade levels within Batavia Public School District #101. Academic teams at each grade level provide for instruction in math, science, social studies, language, literature/reading along with a teacher advisory program. An exploratory team provides a full year of physical education for all students plus the following:
- Sixth Grade: one trimester each of music, art, drama, health, computer, and French (Chorus, band, and orchestra are additional offerings.)
- Seventh Grade (not in band, orchestra, or chorus): one trimester each of art, shop, family & consumer sciences, computer, communications, and foreign language.
- Seventh Grade (in band, orchestra, or chorus): band, orchestra, or chorus plus one trimester each of three of the six seventh grade exploratory classes listed above.
- Eighth Grade: elect six trimester of courses from a broad array of choices in the areas of music, art, drama, health, computer, foreign language, shop, family & consumer sciences, or communications.
Both academic and exploratory teams have blocks of time in which to schedule their classes. Teams use this block of time to flex classes to various lengths to best meet the needs of the students and the curriculum being taught on any given day. All academic teams use as their "regular" schedule a block system which reduces the number of subjects a student experiences on a daily basis, allows for less movement between classes, and allows for longer class times.
In addition to the academic, exploratory, and advisory programs, Sam Rotolo Middle School of Batavia also offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities to meet the interests and needs of our students. The usual interscholastic sports opportunities for 7th and 8th graders are offered. Intramural sports activities are offered for 6th graders. For 6th-8th graders, a wide variety of clubs and full-year activities are offered. Although some of these clubs and activities change from year to year, offerings typically include: Yearbook, Student Council, Building Club (a service club), Cheerleading, Ski Club, Foods Club, art Club, and a number of academically oriented clubs such as Writing Club, Math Club, Science Club, etc. Although our middle school philosophy would have us not "cut" for our any activity, our size dictates that "cuts" must occur in at least some of our activities. Cheerleading and many other clubs and activities allow any number of students to participate. Special Services
A wide variety of student services are offered to work with our students and help them be as successful as they are able. The following student services will be available for the 2007-08 school year.
- 3 counselors - one per grade level
- 1 social worker
- 1 psychologist available for testing and consultation
- 1 full-time Police Liaison Officer
- A full-time RN on duty during school hours a certified school nurse available when needed a full spectrum of special education services.
