RMS Messenger for August 11, 2023
It was great seeing so many of you in the building this week for Locker Move-In Day and our 6th Grade Welcome Event. We had a great turnout at both events and loved seeing our hallways filled with students! Our teachers are back in the building Monday and Tuesday planning for a great first week. We can’t wait to see everyone!
Transportation and Schedules
Please check Powerschool the night before the first day of attendance to be sure that your student’s bus route and/or schedule has not changed. As new students register and are added to current bus routes, pickup/drop-off times can vary slightly from what was originally entered into PowerSchool. New registration of students also may impact class numbers, thus facilitating changes in schedules. Routes will most likely run late the first couple days of school, both in the morning and in the afternoon. For the first week, we recommend students be at their bus stops at least ten minutes before their listed time. Thank you for your patience!

Advisory
Over the course of the school year, your child will be participating in RMS Advisory, a class period dedicated to social-emotional learning (SEL) and student-focused interventions in both academics and SEL. Our Advisory class supports students in acquiring the five attributes identified through BPS101’s Portrait of a Graduate. Students will be acquiring and practicing skills in the areas of emotional intelligence, flexibility, curiosity, communication, and initiative. Students will also periodically participate in an online curriculum, Naviance, our career-readiness program to learn more about their interests for their future. Look for monthly updates in the RMS parent messenger highlighting the upcoming activities your child will participate in during their Advisory class this year.
Frequently Asked Questions
We have received some calls from parents during Locker Move-In. We have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions and the answers.
“I see Bulldog Block in my student’s schedule. What’s that?”
Here’s a one-pager explaining the course.
“I’d like to change my student’s exploratory class. How do I do that?”
Fill out the Exploratory Course Change Request form. Filling out the form does not guarantee that we are able to make the change. We are not able to change Core Academic Courses or Teams. This form will close on Sunday night.
“I see a charge on my PowerSchool Account called SOY Charge. What’s that?”
The SOY charge is a “Start of Year” charge from the previous school year fees. It is a carryover of unpaid fees from the 2022-2023 school year.
“I signed my student up for a sport. How do I pay the fees?”
You can drop off a check to the RMS Main Office during school hours or pay through PowerSchool. Athletics Fees will be added to Powerschool accounts the week of August 21st.
“ How do I order a yearbook for my student?”
In Powerschool, you can purchase your student’s yearbook for $30. When you log into PowerSchool, go to “payments” and hit the “pay now” button, from here select “add optional items” where you can add a yearbook to your student’s account. Yearbooks will be handed out the last week of school. We will not be ordering extra yearbooks, so please purchase early to ensure your student receives one.
“How do I know my student’s locker number and combination?”
Locker numbers and combinations will be updated in PowerSchool before Wednesday.
“I had a problem with my locker. How do I fix it?”
All locker issues from Locker Move-In Day have been resolved. Please check Powerschool for updated locker information and combinations the night before school starts.
