Summer Reading 2019

Summer Reading supports the BPS Mission of “Always Learning, Always Growing.” RMS is excited to continue to support our students’ literacy growth through our RMS One Book One School Summer Reading Initiative.

Summer Expectations: All students entering sixth, seventh, and eighth grade are required to read the novel, I Will Always Write Back:How One Letter Changed Two Lives by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Ganda.  With the theme of kindness and the acceptance of diversity and culture, RMS staff and students will follow up in the Fall 2019 with activities and lessons that connect with the central themes.

Students are encouraged to do additional reading throughout the summer.  Here are suggested titles that go with our One Book One RMS theme and also always enjoy books of your choice as well.  Reading keeps up your skills as a learner and allows you to come back to school academically ready.

Join the Batavia Public Library’s Summer Reading Program and earn prizes for reading! All district students can sign up! Pick up their Summer Reading Guide and participate in all their great programs too.

The required title, I Will Always Write Back, will be distributed to students (now at RMS) at the end of May 2019 .  Incoming 6th graders can check out the required book at the Batavia Public Library this summer and/or can purchase it at a local bookstore.
